NOW IN PROGRESS: LENAWEE WIND PROJECT
Cordelio Power is currently developing the Lenawee Wind Project in Lenawee County, MI, to be sited primarily on agricultural land. The Project is expected to host around 60 wind turbines with total power ouput capability of over 250 MW. Although a turbine supplier has not yet been selected, Cordelio will give preference to turbine suppliers who manufacture their components in the United States.
We are currently engaging with local landowners who may be interested in leasing their land to host portions of the Project on their property. We’re excited to have over 30,000 acres already signed up! To learn more about the Lenawee Wind Project please contact Anthony Morabito, Sr. Manager in Project Development, at amorabito@cordeliopower.com or (231) 412-2727. Benefits of Wind Energy
Wind projects optimize land use by only requiring 1-3 acres of land per turbine and associated access roads. They also bring diversified income to local farming families, providing long-term predictable cash flows for the life of the project while allowing current farming practices to continue. Increased property tax revenue to local units of government provides for improved roads and additional funds for schools and emergency services in the local area. Projects like these can also help communities qualify for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Renewables Ready Communities Award which can bring millions of dollars to the local area where the projects are permitted.
What is the benefit to me if I lease my land?
Landowners will receive payments for leasing their land for the Project. Payments begin based on leased acreage during the Development Term that increase over time. Upon signing a lease, the landowner will receive a one-time payment for the first three years based on their leased acreage while we develop the Project with an option for additional payments in years four through seven if needed. Once construction is complete, payments will be paid both on an acreage basis as well as being based on the infrastructure that has been installed on the property. Additionally, the agreement accounts for compensation around crop and compaction damage as well as addresses the process for fixing the landowner’s drain tile should they be damaged.
How would a turbine affect the usage of my land?
Leasing property for the Lenawee Wind Project is expected to have little impact on land use. As mentioned above, only a small portion of land is needed for the siting of a wind turbine and access road. Once construction is completed, the remainder of the land can continue to be used as it is currently. After construction is complete and during operations, landowners are still able to farm crops or tend to livestock on their property while even utilizing the turbines’ access roads. At the end of the project’s life, any above-ground facilities installed on the land will be removed. Turbine foundations will be removed to a depth of four feet and the property returned to a similar condition as it was before.
